Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO FISH?

Alaska requires everyone to get an Alaska state sport fishing license before engaging in recreational fishing or joining our charter. We also suggest getting a license with a King Salmon stamp in case we come across any.

At this time, Top Knot Charters does not offer fishing licenses. You can get yours at https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/Store/ or various local retailers, including Big Ray’s or Walmart. Please bring a printed copy of your license when you come aboard.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Please wear warm clothing and closed-toed shoes or boots. Consider bringing rain gear in case we get some good ole Kodiak showers. We’ll head out even if it’s raining.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY FISH?

After the charter tour, Island Seafoods will process your fish for a separate fee. Standard packaging is 1 to 1.5 lbs, but they can provide custom processing. By the same time the next day, your fish will be professionally cleaned, filleted, vacuum-sealed, and flash frozen--perfect for taking home.

Need to bring your fish aboard your flight or ship them back home with FedEx overnight delivery? No problem. Island Seafoods will make sure your fish are travel-ready in strong, foil-insulated wax boxes, keeping your fish fresh and tasty.

IS THERE A PASSENGER LIMIT?

Our charter has room for six passengers in addition to our team. You’ll have plenty of room to fish and relax without bumping elbows or tangling lines with your nearest angler. By keeping our crew small, we can make sure to help you look for all the fish you want to target.

CAN I CANCEL IF SOMETHING COMES UP?

Top Knot Charters requires a 50 percent deposit at the time of booking. We do understand life happens, and you might not always get to make the trip. Deposits are nonrefundable if you cancel within 30 days of your scheduled tour. If we are able to fill your reservation, we will gladly return your entire deposit.

If we cancel the fishing tour for any reason, such as due to questionable weather, we’ll provide a 100 percent refund, or we’ll help you find a new tour date or operator that works for you.
